About the Mythologium

The Fates and Graces Mythologium began in 2019 as a conference for mythologists. We wanted to recreate the intellectual and soulful joy of our graduate studies in myth, when we would gather once a month for lectures, discussion, and chance conversations over coffee or wine. So we rolled up our sleeves and organized the first Mythologium.

We had no mailing list, no outside funding, and no time. We hadn’t even finished our dissertations yet, and we had jobs and family commitments. But we did have enthusiasm, friends on social media, and a whole lot of post-it notes. And we had a vision: we wanted to share ideas, inspire each other, and amplify each other’s work.

The 2019 Mythologium was held live and in person, in Morro Bay, California. In 2020, we pivoted to Zoom because of the pandemic, and we stayed online every year through 2022. Honestly, we love both formats. Online conferences allow many people to attend who wouldn’t have been able to otherwise, and in-person gatherings are just so much fun! Going forward, our vision is to cultivate the community of mythologists both online and in person.

We welcome everyone’s whole self at the Mythologium: mind, heart, soul, and imagination. We believe that as the community of mythologists grows and strengthens, so will our voice in the world. That’s the world we want to live in.
